Bandai Makes Solid beats by dre wireless headphones New York Anime Festival Announcements

Bandai Entertainment made a definite splash at the New York Anime Festival/Comic Con today depending on what you're interested in. The panel covered a number of properties and in essence really only had one new license announcement, but they also provided significant Gundam news for old school fans, touch on KOn! as well as a long requested Bluray release.

Bandai announced that they have finally, finally, acquired the Japanese language rights to the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, something that feels odd typing as there's always been another word after Gundam due to all the spinoff series. The show will be released in bilingual format in two Anime Legends parts in 2011 with the 42 episode series getting a proper release. Previously, the only edition available was the dubonly TV releases (which never made it to a full collection) or the three compilation movies that many consider to be superior to the TV series.

Bandai also announced that they've managed to acquire the release of Gundam Unicorn on DVD, though it will be staggered from the Bluray release which is getting a simultaneous worldwide release as they come out. The DVD editions will feature two episodes per disc, making it a three disc release, for $30 a disc. No dates or specs are yet set, particularly as the second Gundam Unicorn OVA has yet to be released.

Fans of KOn! will be delighted to know that it will be getting a Bluray release, but fans of KOn! in general may be dismayed that it and the DVD release will be done over four volumes. It will be released in both standard and limited editions for each volume (29.98, 39.98 for the DVD with CD inclusion as the LE, 34.98 and 44.98 respectively for the Bluray editions with CD for the limited there). No tracks have yet been decided and the release is planned for the spring of 2011.

Bandai also touched on the Haruhi movie though only stating it would be released in the spring of 2011 and no specs are ready yet.

The panel also revealed the cheap beats by dre mixr long awaited Bluray announcement for the Girl Who Leapt Through Time, but declined to provide specs or a date for it.

The new licensing announcement for the panel was the much cheap beats by dre headphones expected Gundam 00 theatrical movie which will be bilingual but nothing further has been decided yet.

they still wont say if KOn will be a hybrid bluray, or will we be stuck with english only, I want to know, and the whole 4 disc release thing is not a big deal, kinda closer to the japanese releases, but still cheaper epecially if it will be hybrid.

that is one of the reaons I havent bought kurokami on bluray is because beats by dre on sale of it being english only

never liked Beats By Dre gundam, so anything gundam releated is a pass for me anyway,

but I hope they keep the original style of cases for beats by dre studio on sale Kon, and I hope the LE's will be worth it, I will just wait for the review, then decide to buy it or not

(In before beats by dre solo hd hectotane makes the usual "bancoholding" rant.)

Gotta agree, Calibur454. For Bandai, it's one step forward, two steps backwards, and http://www.hjbon.com/ one step in the wrong direction (in other words, business as usual).

You'd think that after releasing Haruhi Season 2 on DVD as a set that they would've learned their lesson, that singles don't sell anymore. Well, looks like they've learned nothing at all, as they're releasing KOn the same way they released Haruhi S.1 and Lucky Star (sorry, hardcore collectors, but there's a reason why Right Stuf was selling off a massive supply of limited editions of all the Haruhi and most of the Lucky Star DVDs at deep discounts, and it certainly wasn't because they sold like hotcakes. mmm, hotcakes). If it didn't work three years ago, much less two years ago, odds are it won't work out like they had planned. I look forward to the KOn Anime Legends box set in late 2012 or 2013 (and by "box set", I mean "four discs shoehorned into a case meant for only one").

Yeah, I'm glad they're getting back into the BluRay game with "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", but they're still miles behind the competition in terms of BluRays (hell, even Sentai Filmworks has/will have released more BluRay series and movies by the end of this year than Bandai will before the end of next year).

You'd think with a lighter release schedule, they'd actually buckle down and rerelease some of Bandai Visual's titles at a lower price. Nope, instead we get Gundam Unicorn on DVD for $30 per twoepisode DVD release. Has nothing been learned from the whole Bandai Visual USA debacle? And what's worse is the "Haruhichan/Nyoron Churuyasan" miniseries is being beats by dre pro headphones released as a twoparter for $25 a disc when it should've been done as a single disc (preferably as part of the Haruhi S.2 DVD set).

I was really hoping that things would've changed for the better by the end of the year. Alas, Ken Iyadomi, Robert Napton and Loy Fruel are even more outofsync with general anime fandom than Milli Vanilli and their singing (look it up, kids).
